90 MIN – SOCIAL DRAMA – IN DEVELOPMENT
Polish care worker Irena arrives to the quiet coastal town of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea looking for breathing space from her failing marriage but instead she finds Alex, a complicated man struggling with his self-worth. Brought together through their mutual care for Alex’s nan Sally, a simple but wise old woman trapped by Alzheimer’s disease, the pair come to learn some of life’s hardest and most valuable lessons.
“The character interactions feel precise and carefully realised; this is a writer with a good eye for the finer details. The smaller beats are patiently constructed without feeling erroneous… the pacing is restrained. It’s refreshing to see a script that’s not in too much of a rush. There’s also some skill in the room made for some subtler comic beats… capitalising on quieter observational humour”. – Script Reader for the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum
